Available Vizslas in Rescue

Hazel Update 1/1/14
PLEASE help us find a home for Hazel- Please pass the word. She is a brilliant dog who loves to have a job!
  • Hazel is settling in and becoming use to routine life.
  • She now will run into her kennel(which she has NOT managed to escape from) when it is dinner time.
  • She loves belly rubs! and playing fetch and tug w/ the rope toy.
  • I rented a carpet cleaner last weekend and she was not in the least bit bothered by it.
  • The snow seems to have brought out her zoomies when she is outside but she is really tolerant of her feet being wiped when she comes in.
  • Yesterday, she attended my agility class where she (and a 4 month Labrador puppy) worked on sits and downs.
  • Speaking of agility, she now can jump through a tire jump!

Hazel Update - 11.12.14
Hazel is ready to go to her new forever home. She has been throughly checked out. Her two broken teeth may never need removal.
Details:
  • She can escape from a crate if she decides to. But she is wonderful at night.
  • Bright!
  • Energetic!
  • Self settles like a dream!
  • No apparent (does not live in a home with children) issues with children-but a home with kids is not our first choice
  • Sleeps like a dream in a hotel on the spare bed-she went with the foster family to a Bicycle event for a weekend
  • Travels in a crate like a dream-LOVES to travel
  • Loves clicker training
  • Gets along with the Vizsla and Mix breed in the home.
  • Would make a wonderful performance (agility/rally/obedience/tracking) dog. She needs a job!

Hazel Update - 11.6.14

The Dental expert says that the two broken teeth have alive roots, to not remove them. They may need removing at some point, or never. No way to tell.

That completes our "health check workup" on Hazel.

So applications can be taken. The Application is easy to fill out and can be emailed back.

She needs to go to a "Dog Experienced" home. She needs a home that wants to have a smart dog to train, to do things with. We see nothing that would limit what she could do. No off leash running for a good while (she was a stray found running wild) and plan on going to obedience/training classes.

We will get more pics and video up over the weekend. It was dark by the time the foster got home tonight, and Hazel is going on a trip with them over the weekend...

11.3.14

Report from Hazel's foster home:
  •         she has yet to escape from her crate again
  •         she is VERY smart
  •         she loves to learn-loves clicker work
  •         walks fairly nicely on a leash-but obviously needs work
  •         went to the veterinarian's today- chilled out, laying quietly on the floor until it was her turn
  •         tolerated the exam. There are two teeth of concern, but the foster's veterinarian wants another to check them. If he says do nothing now, that is what we will do. Send her to her new home with the knowledge that the adopters may have to do dental work down the road-or perhaps never!
  •         housebroken
  •         no bedding in crate at this point, but no issue going in crate
  •         when the foster is doing other things Hazel self settles
  •         Hazel is a PUPPY in an adult body- she chews on cords, does zooomies when she comes inside (even when she has stepped in poop :>()
  •         she has a lot of skills to learn, so will need to go to a home that has dog experience and will do at least 6 months of some sort of training class- we do not want to fail Hazel in selecting her new home
  •         this weekend she goes on a trip to MI with her foster family-her car manners are so nice that they are taking her with at least one of their other dogs.
  •         no sign of resource guarding with the "house dogs"
  •         no sign of resource guarding with the foster humans

11.1.14
Report from Hazel's foster home:

  •     bright, catching on to clicker training
  •     can chew on bedding
  •     is an escape artist from a crate when she wants to - LOTS of Zip ties are, hopefully, stopping the escape artist behavior.
  •     did not wreck the house when she escaped the crate
  •     very nice girl
  •     very smart girl
  •     wonderful temperament
  •     no sign of separation anxiety
  •     gets along with the mid sized mix breed and the intact Vizlsa bitch in the foster home.

10.29.14
Hazel is a Vizsla found wandering in Adams County, OH. She was probably purchased as a"hunting dog" has all 4 canines broken, has "kennel run" callouses, and has probably had at least one litter. She got into a snare trap- therein the slashes to the neck (probably both sides).

Hazel is about 2 years of age. She will need to go to some sort of pet manners class for at least 6 months as she is a wild girl. It is probable that she is gun shy. Her conformation says that she probably came from an Ohio hunting breeder, and she would not have been abandoned loose if she were a "good hunting companion."

BVR is picking up Hazel on October 30, and transporting her to a foster home. She still needs dental surgery, in addition to paying for already received medical care:  neck repair and spay. Yes donations are needed!

If interested in either of these girls please fill out the Adoption Appplication and email to us..
